Commissioner's Medical Grand Rounds: Putting Measles on the Spot: Perspectives from New York State and Texas
Session Details
This Grand Rounds session will provide the latest updates on measles, including transmission, complications, historical and recent outbreaks, vaccine confidence, and the importance of immunizations, as well as the current measles outlook in New York and the United States.
Case studies will include a discussion of the measles outbreak in Texas, the response and lessons learned, and best practices for New York State providers when responding to suspected or confirmed cases of measles.

Debra Blog, MD, MPH
Debra Blog is the Medical Director of the Division of Vaccine Excellence at the New York State Department of Health. She has worked for the Department of Health for more than 23 years in the areas of immunization and communicable diseases. She received her MD degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and her MPH degree from SUNY at Albany School of Public Health. She is trained in Pediatrics and Preventive Medicine.
Stephanie White, APRN, CNM
Stephanie White, APRN, CNM, is the director of Women's Health Services at the Community Health Center of Lubbock in Lubbock, TX. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of South Alabama and a master's degree from Frontier Nursing University. After working as a labor and delivery nurse, she became a certified nurse-midwife for the Community Health Center of Lubbock, where she has been working since 2017. She has been caring for birthing families in the west Texas area since 2008. She is also working toward AASECT certification as sexuality counselor through the Sexual Health Alliance. She is a member of ACNM, CTCNM, AASECT, ASCCP, and an affiliate member of ACOG.
Joseph Domachowske, MD
Dr. Joseph Domachowske is a Pediatric infectious Disease Specialist, Professor of Pediatrics, and Professor of Microbiology, and Immunology at Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York. As a subspecialty consultant, his clinical duties involve the evaluation and treatment of children who develop unusual or unusually severe infections. Currently, he serves as the Principal Investigator for clinical trials designed to evaluate the efficacy of novel investigational vaccines and antiviral treatments. Dr. Domachowske has published 4 textbooks and more than 180 original scientific papers in his field of expertise in such high impact journals as the New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet Pediatrics, Journals of Immunology, Pediatric Infectious Disease, Medicine, Pediatrics, Vaccine and the Journal of Pediatric Infectious Disease Society, among others. He is a highly regarded educator who enjoys sharing his clinical experiences and research updates with his colleagues, and as an invited speaker at a number of regional, national and international venues.
Ariela Zamcheck, DO, MPH
Ariela Zamcheck DO, MPH is the Bureau Director of Vaccine Preventable Diseases within the Division of Vaccine Excellence at the NYSDOH. A family physician, she entered the Fellowship in Applied Public Health at University at Albany/NYSDOH in 2021 following residency, assisting with a broad range of projects including Transgender PrEP uptake disparities and pediatric COVID-19 morbidity and mortality. Following fellowship, she worked in a clinical/ administrative capacity as Associate Director of Student Health at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
