Session Details
This Grand Rounds session will cover critical updates in the screening of lung cancer. This includes the latest advancements in screening eligibility, quality screening and diagnostic algorithms, and workflow resources to build into practice. The session will provide an overview of the epidemiology of lung cancer in the state and current trends in screening uptake. Case studies will offer practical examples of how to implement lung cancer screening into routine care. Subject matter experts will equip health care professionals with the latest knowledge and tools to enhance their practice in the early detection of one of the most common causes of cancer deaths across New York State.

Heather Dacus, DO, MPH
Dr. Heather Dacus is a board-certified preventive medicine physician who joined the New York State Department of Health in 2007. She serves as director of the Bureau of Cancer Prevention and Control.
Robert Fortuna, MD, MPH
Dr. Fortuna is a professor of Internal Medicine, Pediatrics and Community Health at the University of Rochester (UR). He is a practicing internist, pediatrician, and health services researcher. Dr. Fortuna received his medical degree from Dartmouth Medical School and his Master of Public Health (MPH) from the Harvard School of Public Health. He completed residency training in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at Brigham and Women's Hospital, MGH, and Boston Children's Hospital. He subsequently completed a general medicine fellowship at the Department of Population Medicine, Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Fortuna is the medical director for Quality and Population Health in the UR Primary Care Network, which includes 42 primary care practices across Upstate NY and provides care to over 261,000 patients.

Thamer Robert Qaqish MD, MSc, FACS
Dr. Qaqish is a thoracic surgeon at Erie County Medical Center and clinical assistant professor at the University at Buffalo in Buffalo, New York. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. His practice focus is on lung cancer screening, diagnosis, staging, and treatment of lung cancer using minimally invasive robotic-assisted surgery.
