New York State 2021 Health Equity Reports
Backround
Title 2-F of New York Public Health Law requires the New York State Department of Health to issue a report on the health status of racial and ethnic populations in Racially and Ethnically Diverse Areas, defined in Public Health Law, as a non-White population of 40 percent or more. You can view a map (PDF) of New York State counties with Minor Civil Divisions consisting of a non-White population of 40 percent or greater. This legislatively mandated report is known as the Health Equity Report. The New York State Department of Health has been providing state and county level data on health disparities since 2007.
Having data available at this level can assist communities and policymakers with identifying health disparities and their impacts. The Health Equity Report data can also be used to understand and identify priorities, mobilize communities, target health related interventions; and promote health equity.
Reports
The New York State 2021 Health Equity Report series present data on health outcomes, demographics, and other community characteristics for cities and towns with a 40 percent or greater non-White population throughout New York State. Each town's or city's specific report contains data associated with the priority areas of the Prevention Agenda 2019-2024 (New York State's Health Improvement Plan), as well as social determinant indicators such as housing, educational attainment, and insurance coverage.
Of the communities identified, thirty-seven (37) had sufficient health indicator data to produce a report.
