Breastfeeding, Chestfeeding, and Lactation Friendly New York (BFFNY), 2023-2028
BFFNY establishes and supports communities as places where it is easier to start and continue breast/chestfeeding. Grantees work within priority communities, engage a variety of partners and decision-makers, and develop and execute a comprehensive implementation plan in local catchment areas including cities, towns, reservations, and neighborhoods to achieve continuity of care for breastfeeding families. The Department of Health (DOH) has defined five regions (Western, Central, Capital, Metropolitan Area, and New York City) and identified eligible communities in these regions that are racially and ethnically diverse communities within high-need areas as defined by the Area Deprivation Index (Neighborhood Atlas - wisc.edu), which uses 17 indicators for education, employment, housing quality, and poverty.
Grant goals include:
- Supporting breastfeeding, chestfeeding, and lactation in health care practices, worksites, and public places through policy and environmental changes.
- Developing breastfeeding, chestfeeding, and lactation support groups and coalitions.
- Implementing communication activities.
Awardees receive $197,502 per contract, per year for five years, beginning July 1, 2023.
