PrEP Patient Assistance Program (PrEP-AP)
New NYSDOH program covers PrEP health care and Laboratory costs
To expand access to pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) to prevent HIV infection, the NYSDOH now offers the PrEP Patient Assistance Program (PrEP-AP). The program provides financial assistance to cover patient health care and laboratory costs that are part of PrEP.
PrEP includes regular medical visits, periodic HIV testing, screening for STDs and other laboratory tests. If a person is uninsured, or has health insurance that does not reimburse for some of these PrEP services, he or she can use PrEP-AP to access the services free. However, you must receive these services at a medical office that participates in PrEP-AP.
This program does not cover the cost of the medication, but people interested in PrEP will be educated about how to apply to the drug manufacturer’s patient assistance program or other resources to cover the cost of the medication.
