Goals and Benefits
Objectives of the Program
- Helps very impaired "difficult" residents with dementia find some common ground to revitalize old social skills, encourage conversation, and establish a more positive relationship.
- Provides a social experience and promote a sense of self-identity with the competent self rather than the incompetent dementia self.
- Establishes a sense of community among a group of peers, in which they can exercise control and belonging.
- Provides an experience in which they can respond positively.
For the Staff
- Staff see residents display positive behavior.
- Promotes carryover of approaches and attitudes witnessed by staff during the group into daily interactions with residents.
