CNA Empowerment to Improve Dementia Care
This project taught the unit staff members (RNs, LPNs, CNAs, unit clerks, dieticians, etc.) to use activities to manage behaviors and gave an overview of dementia. The project also consisted of teaching unit staff members how to lead small groups on the dementia floors for the lead nursing home. The project also focused on developing ways of communication for CNAs on all shifts to be able to participate in care plan meetings. Five other facilities were also trained in the curriculum.
A training manual was produced and disseminated to every nursing home in New York State.
Goal: Eliminate Resident to resident altercations and reduce falls, and increase staff satisfaction.
