Lead Safe NY
Lead Safe NY is New York State's lead rental registry data system to report and share information with the New York State Department of Health, your local health department, and local code enforcement about the Lead Rental Registry Law. If you own property in one of the 25 communities of concern, you will be asked to enter/verify your rental property information using Lead Safe NY or your county's Lead Rental Registry online data system.
First Time Users Read Me Before You Log In
- Unless you are in Monroe County, you will need to enter your property information into Lead Safe NY.
- Read all information on this page before using Lead Safe NY for the first time.
Verify You Have a NY.gov ID
- Log in to Lead Safe NY. If you do not have a NY.gov ID you will need to create one.
- If you cannot remember your username or password follow the instructions for Forgot Username or Forgot Password under the Sign In button.
To create a NY.gov ID
- Select Create an Account under the Sign In button and follow the instructions to register and activate your account using your email.
- After your account is successfully created and activated, log out, close your browser, and proceed with the instructions below.
Register Your Properties
What You Need
Make sure you have all this information: The record for each property will not be saved until you click Submit.
- Your rental property street address and unit identifier for each unit at that address.
- The Property Tax ID # (found on deed, annual tax bill, title report, mortgage documents). You can contact your town, village, or city clerk if you don’t have this information.
- Name, address, phone number, and email of the primary property owner
- Corporation (LLC) contact information (if applicable)
- Contact information for property or building managers authorized to assist with compliance-related activities
Log into Lead Safe NY using your NY.gov ID
- Use the New Registration menu to register each rental property with two or more units built before 1980.
- Report all units on the rental property, including any occupied by the property owner/immediate family. These may be exempt later from certain requirements, if approved by your local health department.
- Even if you think your property is not applicable under the Law, you must still register your rental property. In the Applicability section, you may describe why the property is not subject to the requirements of the Law.
- Registering your property should take about 10 minutes.
- If you notice errors after you submit your form, contact your local health department to correct them. You may not edit or delete your record after it is created. Please do not create a new form duplicating a property tax ID to correct errors.
- If you own more than one rental property, you must complete a separate form for each property.
View Your Property Information
- Log in to Lead Safe NY with your NY.gov ID
- Select the My Registrations menu to view the information for each property.
- Please contact your local health department to correct any errors. You may not edit or delete a record after it is created. Please do not create a new form duplicating a Property Tax ID# to correct errors.
