Student/Staff Education Documentation Template

Under 10NYCRR Subpart 67-4, any drinking water outlets that are non-applicable or out of service for remediation must have clear signs and other control measures in place to prevent their use for drinking or preparing foods. Other controls may include education, supervision, and engineering controls.

It is essential to educate students and staff about the importance of not drinking water or eating food prepared with water from these outlets. Effective education can include, but are not limited to:

  • Newsletter Blurb
  • Paragraph in Student Handbook
  • Monthly Morning/Afternoon Announcement
  • "Back to School" Teacher Training
  • Signed Student Lab Contract
  • Social Media Post

You must document all educational efforts related to preventing the use of drinking water outlets that are out of service or undergoing remediation. Please keep paper or digital copies of educational materials for record-keeping. This template is designed to assist schools with complying with 10NYCRR Subpart 67-4. It outlines record keeping requirements and provides messaging that may be used as part of your education and outreach.
