After you have access to HCS, we highly recommended taking the Health Commerce Training Institute (CTI) on-line Courses for Hospitals and Clinics
- CTI-100 - Intro to the Health Commerce System Portal (PDF)
- CTI-120 – Integrated Data Reporting in HERDS
- CTI-200 – Communications Directory Certification
- CTI-300 – Integrated Health Alerting and Notification System (IHANS) Training & Certification “Available for State and local Health Departments only”.

Through the SUNY's School of Public Health, the Office of Health Emergency Preparedness produces a monthly e-newsletter called "Aware Prepare Update" that lists an assortment of professional development training e-courses to educate, guide and connect your staff/facility to your health community. The newsletter is posted regularly on the main page of the Health Commerce System. Or, to be included in the mailing list to receive the e-newsletter, email edlearn@health.ny.gov. These trainings may be provided in one or more of the following formats, including: live webcasts, webinars and in-person training; archived webcasts, webinars and on-demand eLearning.
The e-courses listed above are highly recommended to fully understand how to use the Health Commerce System and can be accessed via the web-based tool "New York Learns Public Health" designed to facilitate the registration and tracking of learners in competency-based courses for staff in State, local and public health and allied health agencies throughout New York. If you're a Hospital, Clinic or Nursing Home, and have taken the on-line training "CTI-100 - Introduction to Health Commerce System Portal" above, please add the following important applications to "My Applications" on your main page of the HCS. Go to "All Applications listed in the tab "My Content" drop-down menu on the main page of HCS:
- Electronic Plan of Correction (ePOC) is a mandatory HCS application/process to electronically respond to a Statement of Deficiency (SOD). This application can be added to your "My Applications".
- New York Patient Occurrence Reporting Tracking System (NYPORTS) is a mandatory adverse event reporting system established pursuant to Public Health Law §2805-l and Title 10 New York Code, Rules and Regulations §405.8 and 751.10.
