Statement From Health Commissioner Dr. James McDonald On Veterans Day
ALBANY, N.Y. (November 8, 2024) - As we commemorate Veterans Day, the State Department of Health and all New Yorkers extend our deepest gratitude to and admiration for those who served in the United States Armed Forces.
"Veterans Day originated in 1919 as Armistice Day to commemorate the end of World War I but was renamed Veterans Day in 1954 to honor veterans of all wars.
"I am honored to be a veteran of the U.S. Navy and understand the privilege to wear a uniform and serve a country.
"Veterans Day is a powerful reminder of the dedication and sacrifices made by the men and women on the front lines.
"The State Health Department thanks all these brave individuals and remains committed to ensuring that we provide the support and quality resources all veterans deserve."
