11 Independent Living Centers Recently Joined New Statewide CDPAP Partnership to Work With PPL on Supporting a Successful Transition
ALBANY, N.Y. (January 8, 2025) – The New York State Department of Health has released a public service announcement that dispels myths about the April 1 transition of the Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program (CDPAP) to a single fiscal intermediary. The video features State Health Commissioner Dr. James McDonald speaking directly to New Yorkers who are enrolled in CDPAP.
"It is important that I speak directly to the public to dispel rumors and avoid misrepresentation about this transition, which is designed to strengthen the program and protect home care users and their caregivers," State Health Commissioner Dr. James McDonald said. "The bottom line is, New Yorkers currently enrolled in CDPAP will keep their home care services after the April 1 transition."
The 60-second public service announcement is airing on television and online and aims to combat misinformation about the transition. The video explains that during this transition, CDPAP eligibility for home care users will not change, and individuals who receive care through the program will not need to reapply. Additionally, this process to strengthen CDPAP will take steps to ensure caregivers continue to receive timely payments and avoid any disruptions in services for those who rely on the program.
Through a new statewide partnership, Public Partnerships LLC (PPL) and a diverse alliance of community-based home care providers will deliver a stronger CDPAP and ensure New Yorkers in the program will receive the high-quality care they need. The statewide partnership includes 11 Independent Living Centers, disability-led non-profit organizations who have long served as advocates and champions for New Yorkers with disabilities living independent and self-directed lives.
As of January 6, CDPAP consumers across New York can now begin registering with PPL to ensure their continued service as part of this transition process. Consumer can begin registering through one of the following options:
- Option 1: Call PPL's support center at 1-833-247-5346 or TTY: 1-833-204-9042 and a PPL team member will help you complete the process.
- Option 2: Access PPL@Home by going to PPL's website at pplfirst.com/cdpap.
