Statement From State Health Commissioner Dr. James McDonald on Tragic Incident at Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta

"We are deeply saddened by the senseless and tragic shooting at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, which claimed the life of a police officer and put our public health colleagues in harm's way.

"Our hearts are with the loved ones of the young father who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, protecting those who serve the public good.

"It is heartbreaking that individuals who dedicate their lives to protecting and improving the health of others face not only criticism and scrutiny, but also the threat of physical violence.

"As Commissioner, I reaffirm our unwavering commitment to safeguarding the health of all New Yorkers and to ensuring both the physical safety and mental well-being of our dedicated employees.

"In this difficult moment, let us stand united and, most importantly, look out for one another."
