American FactFinder Accesses data from the Censuses of Population and Housing, the American Community Survey, and the Economic Census. Users can search Census STF databases, with metadata description, and format the results to create customized tables (or download to spreadsheets), construct reference maps to show boundaries and features for geographic entities, and produce quick thematic maps to reveal geographic patterns in statistical data.
Anne E. Casey Foundation Has links to KIDS COUNT, a project of the Annie E. Casey Foundation. This is a national and state-by-state effort to track the status of children in the United States.
The American Community Survey (ACS): The American Community Survey is a way to provide the data communities need every year instead of once in ten years. It is an on-going survey that the Census Bureau plans will replace the long form in the 2010 Census. Full implementation of the survey is planned for 2003 in every county of the United States if Congress allocates the necessary funding. Detailed tables provide access to data from summary files. Quick tables give you quick access to frequently requested information for a single geographic area.
Current Population Survey (CPS): This household sample survey of civilian non-instutional population of the United States conducts a monthly survey on unemployment and labor force characteristics. Each year the March suplement contains contains information on demographics, work experience,non-cash benefits and migration.
Lewis Mumford Center for Comparative Urban and Regional Research: Has maps at county and census tract levels for seven social indicators including population, civic heath, housing, public health, education,economy and public safety. Public Health Social Indicator looks at births,deaths and hospitalizations, cancer mortality rate, infant mortality, the number of hospital beds and the number of non-federal employed physicians. Mumford Center also has Census 2000 information for counties and specific tracts throughout the State.
New York State Data Center Provides population estimates by county, town, village, and city; county migration data, state and county economic census data; and county business pattern data. It also provides links to other data sources.
NYS Department of Labor Has a wealth of state, county, region, and MSA labor statistics, including employment and unemployment statistics, employment by sector, recent labor market trends, earnings, occupational projections, and a directory of labor market information.
NYS Education Department Public School Data The school report cards and statistical reports provide useful data by school and school district, including performance and accountability measures (regent test score results), enrollment, demographics (e.g. race/ethnicity), drop-out and attendance rates, and students enrolled in school lunch program.
NYS Office of Real Property Services Municipal Profiles Provides school, property sales and tax information by county and municipality.
United States Bureau of the Census Has information on demographics, poverty, housing, and useful social, demographic and economic information; user-friendly access to data through American factfinder.
U.S. Census Federal Electronic Research and Review Extraction Tool (FERRET): Provides data from national surveys such as the American Housing Survey, National Survey of Income and Program Participation (SIPP), and Current Population Survey.
