Meeting Notice – New York State Department of Health to Hold Public Meeting on July 9 to Discuss Northern Seneca County Cancer Report

What:The New York State Department of Health will hold a public meeting to discuss the results of a report on northern Seneca County lung cancer rates. The report can be found here.

The review was conducted in response to community concerns and at the request of the Seneca Falls Town Board and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.

The purpose of the review was to provide the residents of the towns of Fayette, Junius, Seneca Falls, Tyre, and Waterloo with cancer statistics from the area surrounding the Seneca Meadows Landfill for the years 1996 through 2021.

The meeting will include a presentation of findings as well as a Question-and-Answer session.

The Health Research Science Board will hold a business meeting and public hearing from 10:00am - 12:00pm at the NYS DOH Wadsworth Center, Biggs Laboratory, Sturman Conference Room, Empire State Plaza, Albany, NY, 2062 Montauk Highway, Narraganset, NY, Upstate Biotech Accelerator, 841 E. Fayette St, Syracuse, NY, Shelter Rock Public Library (small conference room) 165 Searingtown Road Albertson, NY, 3627 Melvin Drive South, Baldwinsville NY, 2 Longview Ave, Suite 500, White Plains, NY, 2444 Ridge Rd, McGraw, NY, and Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) One Bungtown Road, Cold Spring Harbor, NY 11724. To reach a wider audience, video conference technology will also be utilized.

The Board solicits, receives, reviews and recommends applications for award from the Breast Cancer Education and Research Fund.

Attendees will be required to show photo ID upon entrance to the meeting location(s); virtual attendees will be sent videoconference instructions closer to the meeting date. The New York State Medicaid Evidence Based Benefit Review Advisory Committee (EBBRAC) will hold an in-person meeting on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at Empire State Plaza, Concourse Meeting Room #6, Albany, NY 12210, from 10:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. EBBRAC is charged with assisting the New York State Department of Health in examining new and emerging services/technologies, as well as existing services/benefits currently included in the Medicaid benefit package.

The Committee will review: AI-Enabled Devices for Autonomous Screening for Diabetic Retinopathy.

The public may submit written comments and present them at the meeting. Requests may be submitted no later than July 17, 2026, via e-mail to EBBRAC@health.ny.gov.
