How New York State is Responding to Human Trafficking
The State Created a Task Force
In 2007, "IATF on Human Trafficking" was created under Social Services Law Section 483-ee. This is the New York State Interagency Task Force on Human Trafficking.
IATF Human Trafficking Objectives:
- Recommend interagency protocols and best practices for training and outreach. These are for service providers and the law enforcement community to:
- Gather data on the number of victims.
- Get data on the law's effectiveness.
- Evaluate methods to increase public awareness about trafficking.
- Make recommendations on these methods.
ITAF Human Trafficking agency members
The ITAF Human Trafficking is Co-chaired by Commissioners of Two Agencies:
- The Division of Criminal Justice Services
- The State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance
Other State Agencies on the Task Force Include (but are not limited to*):
- Department of Health
- Office of Mental Health
- Department of Labor
- Office of Children and Family Services
- Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services
- New York State Office of Victim Services (formerly Crime Victims Board)
- Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence
- State Police
