Prevention Agenda Priorities:

- Access to High-Quality Chronic Disease Preventive Care and Management in Clinical and Community Settings.

Goals:
- Create community environments that promote and support healthy food and beverage choices and physical activity
- Prevent childhood obesity through early child-care and schools
- Increase breastfeeding
- Prevent initiation of tobacco use by New York youth and young adults, especially among low socioeconomic status (SES) populations
- Prevent, non-medical use of prescription pain relievers drugs by youth
Interventions:
- Encourage the increase of physical activity into the school day; encourage breast-feeding; establish joint use agreements to use school space afterhours, support Healthy Monday programs, support health screenings related to cardiovascular health, Promote E at Smart NY
- Promote policies and implement programs which aim to decrease availability and visibility of tobacco products
- Promote Quitline, online resources, and "apps" to assist individuals with quitting
- Conduct media campaigns aimed at tobacco use prevention
- Continue to implement ATUPA surveillance program
- Work with employers on smoke-free grounds
- Promote tobacco prevention through the Healthy Mondays program
- Work with community partners to educate adolescents at high schools and adults in the community about the dangers of cigarette smoking
- Reduce the abuse of prescription drugs by high school students as measured by a school-based survey administered in the 2012/2013 year and re-administered in 2016/2016
- The Columbia-Greene Controlled Substance Task Force will continue its work to decrease prescription drug abuse in Columbia and Greene Counties
- Strategies include: educating community members, students, medical providers about the dangers of non-medical use of prescription drugs; promoting community collection opportunities for unused prescription drugs; and linking community members to substa nce abuse treatment
