New York's Efforts to Reduce Maternal Mortality
Saving Lives, Promoting Healthy Births, Fighting Bias
The death of a person from a pregnancy-related cause is devastating. The loss can affect the newborn, the partner/spouse, and family and friends. The New York State Department of Health engages with hospitals, birthing centers, obstetricians and midwives, doulas, and community-based organizations to support people who are pregnant and who give birth to ensure they receive high quality, comprehensive, timely, and respectful care, with the goal of eliminating pregnancy-related deaths.
