These estimates are for adult New Yorkers aged 40 years and older:
- 14.9% have a distance vision impairment (PDF)
- 4.1% have age-related macular degeneration (PDF)
- 19% have cataract (PDF)
- 2.9% have diabetic retinopathy (PDF)
- 5.3% have glaucoma (PDF)
- 3.5 million people over the age of 40 suffer from visual impairment (Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System, 2006-2008)

- Amblyopia affects approximately 2-3% of the population.
