Tanning and Sun Safety
Tanned skin is NOT healthy skin.
Ultraviolet (UV) radiation from tanning booths and the sun can greatly damage skin and increase risk of skin cancer, some types of which are deadly.
Learn more about the risks of tanning, indoors and outdoors, and steps you can take to protect your skin and your health.
Indoor Tanning
Indoor tanning is dangerous. It exposes you to high levels of ultraviolet (UV) radiation in a short time. Tanning beds are much more intense than natural sun exposure.
Sun Safety
Exposure to the sun’s rays happens during everyday activities like biking, walking, and gardening. Even when a sunburn or tan fades, damage caused to skin cells does not.
Skin Cancer
About 90% of skin cancers are the result of too much exposure to UV radiation from either the sun or indoor tanning (tanning beds, tanning booths, and sunlamps).
