Radiologic Technology

Radiologic technologists must be licensed and registered by the New York State Department of Health. The Bureau of Environmental Radiation Protection licenses Radiologic Technologists in Radiography, Therapy, and Nuclear Medicine.

All ionizing radiation equipment for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes must be administered by a licensed radiologic technologist under the supervision of a licensed medical provider, or by a licensed medical provider. Radiologic technologists with proper training can also apply for certification to inject contrast media. Applications for injection certification can be obtained by emailing berp@health.ny.gov or calling 518-402-7580.

Check a Radiologic Technician's Registration Status

Active registration as a Radiologic Technician is required by New York State law.  Unregistered technologists are prohibited from practicing.

Registration status is sorted alphabetically by the licensed technologist’s last name. This database is updated weekly and indicates if the registration is expired.

Email berp@health.ny.gov or call 518-402-7580 to renew your registration or if you have questions about the status of your registration. First time applicants must complete a Radiologic Technologist License Application (PDF).

The 2007 change to Article 35 of the Public Health law and the regulations in 10 NYCRR 89 include some important changes to the practice of radiologic technology in the State of New York. These changes are discussed in the Technologist FAQ.
