Homicide and Assault Injuries in New York State
Homicide rates were highest in 1995 at 8.4 deaths per 100,000 New York State residents. The rate decreased to 3.1 deaths per 100,000 in 2014.
The rate of hospitalizations due to assault injuries significantly decreased from a rate of 64.5 per 100,000 New Yorkers in 1995, to a low of 35.2 in 2014.
Emergency department visit data has only been collected since 2005. Assault injury emergency department visit rates decreased from 428.4 visits per 100,000 New Yorkers in 2005 to 390.3 in 2012. In 2013 the rate was 420.9.
