WIC Approved Food
WIC approved food includes milk, fruits and vegetables, whole grains, eggs, beans, and baby food.
These foods can be purchased with an eWIC card at participating stores.
The WIC Acceptable Foods Card (PDF) includes a detailed list of WIC approved foods and brands, as well as items that cannot be purchased with WIC benefits.

General WIC Food Information
WIC approved foods are high in nutrients that are important for pregnant, breastfeeding, and postpartum individuals, and young children. WIC's goal is to ensure the health of participants and families by providing healthy foods and supporting breastfeeding.
WIC provides participants with the following options:
Pregnant, Breastfeeding, and Postpartum Individuals and Children
- Low fat (1%) or nonfat (skim) milk for pregnant, breastfeeding, postpartum individuals and children two years of age or older
- Whole milk for children one to two years of age
- Cheese, yogurt, evaporated milk, evaporated goat's milk, or dry milk as milk substitutions
- Soy beverage and tofu as milk alternatives
- Dry beans, canned beans or peanut butter options
- Whole wheat bread or other whole grain options (whole wheat tortillas, brown rice, whole wheat pasta) for children, pregnant, and mostly or fully breastfeeding individuals
- Cash value benefit for fresh, frozen or canned vegetables and fruits
- Pregnant and postpartum individuals receive $47.00
- Breastfeeding individuals receive $52.00
- Children receive $26.00
- Eggs
- Whole grain cereals
- 100% unsweetened fruit or vegetable juice
- Canned fish for fully breastfeeding individuals
Infants
Ages Zero Months to less than Twelve Months
- Infant formula based upon the infant's breastfeeding status
Ages Six Months to less than Twelve Months
- Jarred baby vegetables and fruits
- Jarred baby meats for fully breastfeeding infants
- Infant cereal
Ages Nine Months to less than Twelve Months
- Cash value benefit option for fresh vegetables and fruits
- Fully breastfed infants receiving no formula through WIC may receive $8.00
- All other infants may receive $4.00
Organic, lactose free, and kosher products are available for some food items.

Cow's milk-based or soy-based formula that meets the nutritional needs of most healthy infants.

Medical Documentation Requirements
- Medical documentation is required for:
- Infants 6 months or older with greater amounts of formula in lieu of infant foods
- Infants with formula for medical needs
- Children and women with any formula or supplement
- Children and women with infant foods
- Complete the Medical Documentation Form (PDF) with a qualifying medical condition, formula quantity (ounces/day), length of use, and food restrictions.
- Premature formulas may be provided to premature infants up to their corrected age of 12 months.
- All flavors are approved for NYS WIC eligible formula products.
- The need for Ready-To-Use formula will be addressed by the WIC Program.
