Question Response
How is Day Habilitation services changing in the Children's Waiver? Day Habilitation will no longer be a service in the Children's Waiver starting January 1, 2026. Children/youth who have Day Habilitation will have until March 1, 2026 to move to Community Habilitation - a different HCBS service that is the same and can be provided in the home or community and not at an agency. If the child/youth still need services to assist them with daily living skills and supports, they can move to Community Habilitation. If child/youth does not still need this service, your child's care manager will work to close your child from the service.
Why is this change being made? Day Habilitation had to be provided at an agency program. The Children's Waiver wants to do services in the home or community of the child/youth/family, to meet their needs and reach their goals.
What is Community Habilitation? This service helps children/youth with skills to do things on their own and to be able to live in their community. Community Habilitation helps to build and use everyday skills. This service helps children/youth to use their skills to stay at home and in the community and not in an out of home placement.
